With sweeping curves and vibrant graphics, the funky Eclipse 2.1 computer speakers integrate perfectly into the modern gaming environment.

The contemporary slim satellites produce an impressive 10W per channel which, when combined with the ported downward-firing subwoofer provides a genuinely high impact sound – whether used as laptop or PC speakers, or as a gaming or home AV set-up.

Power on/standby and volume control are integrated in to the right satellite speaker to keep easy adjustment at your fingertips – so there’s no need to put your controller down at the wrong moment.

And as well as being amongst the best 2.1 PC speakers on the gamer’s radar, Eclipse 2.1 also works extremely well as MP3 speakers – giving your digital music a high quality sound whether plugged into a full Hi-Fi system or standalone.

EXPERT REVIEW

The Otone Audio Eclipse speakers are an affordable way to get big sound and good quality audio from your laptop.

As you can no doubt see from the image, the Otone Audio Eclipse speakers are pretty eye-catching, but don’t be fooled into thinking this product is a bimbo, these speakers get a lot of things right. See all audio reviews.

Let’s start by getting the elephant in the room out of the way. The aesthetics of these speakers are not for everyone. If you’re looking for an unstated set of laptop speakers that you plan to compliment your house/office’s furnishings then the Otone Audio Eclipse speakers probably aren’t for you. See Group test: what's the best speaker set?

However, if you can get past the…er…interesting colour scheme of the Otone Audio Eclipse speakers, then what you are left with is a very good product for under fifty quid.

In terms of sheer volume power, you have to heap the praise onto these speakers. The 2.1 system has enough strength it in its locker to knock you back a bit. From our time testing the Otone Audio Eclipse speakers, we found that its bass performance was confident and carried through well, really letting you know that its there. Impressively, this isn’t a one trick pony of a speaker set, as the treble punched it’s way through almost to a fault, and vocals came ringing through pleasantly too.

There are also a couple of nice physical features that we appreciated here. Firstly the audio/power leads to the two main speakers are long enough to create a nice three-dimensional sound with (a nice touch). Secondly, there is an old school volume wheel that is rarely found on modern speakers (another nice touch).

OUR VERDICT

Build Quality: **** 3.5/5
Features: **** 3.5/5
Value for Money: ***** 4.5/5
Performance: ***** 4.5/5
Overall: **** 4/5

You will struggle find to a set of speakers for under £50 that produce better all-round sound than the Otone Audio Eclipse speakers. Its only draw back is the colour scheme, which is a real shame because technically these are a great product.

Ultimately, the Otone Audio Eclipse speakers punch well above their weight in terms of sound quality for their price tag. If you’re looking for a set of speakers that are cheapish and sound great - with plenty of oomph - then you could do a lot worse than purchasing these…if you can overlook the horrid specs of green that ruin its looks, that is.
